因種在「鴨屎土」(黃壤土)，茶葉葉形似鴨腳木而得名。鴨屎香的原叢母樹生長在海拔900米的潮州潮安區鳳凰鎮鳳溪坪坑頭村。
 
該茶沖泡時冒出的香氣近似金銀花盛開時的香味。
